Bank Statements

We often need bank statements for proof of income or proof of funds for security deposits. What we don’t need, is your account number.

You should be very careful who you share your bank account number with. Whenever you send bank statements to us be sure to HIDE / MASK your account number.

Masking can be done in a number of ways. The most common is to use a black marker and cover the account number before you scan a document. An older method is to use white-out to cover the account number.

A modern method is to use the marker function on your computer, phone, or tablet to cover the account number.

Use the method that is easiest for you, but use SOMETHING. Never send bank statements without your account number being covered or hidden in some way. Remember, your account number may be in more than one place on the statement, so check carefully.

An example of digital (red marker) account masking is shown below. Click the picture to view a statement with masking done with a black sharpie.
